Beautiful St. Albert Custom Kitchen Cabinetry

Another month, another Project Profile discussion! 

In this installment, we’re going to chat about a client project we did in the summer of 2021, some custom kitchen cabinetry in the St. Albert region! 

We love the opportunity to discuss these previous Project Profiles; it’s a way to revisit projects that we’re proud of completing for our clients, and it’s also a great way for us to provide valuable insight into our design and building process.

This client had a particular vision for the colour of their maple cabinetry, and we were only too happy to match the exact colour they had in mind. Where we can provide a totally bespoke approach, this was only too easy!

Our team has worked alongside a local renovation company in the Edmonton region for years, and we’ve developed such an excellent rapport that they consistently call upon us to complete cabinetry work for their clients.

The clients in question wanted the colour of their maple custom kitchen cabinetry matched to a specific item in their home. The colour is a beautiful, restful sage green - rather a departure from traditional kitchen colours, which usually favour a rustic orange or bright red to stimulate the appetite. 

Our team really fell in love with the client’s European culture and design tastes - by the end of the project, we felt we had honoured their cultural style while integrating their preferred colour. 

Our Process:

Consulting With Addison Grace Design

We naturally collaborated with our long-term designer, Addison Grace Design. We love her client-led approach, which is meant to draw out their natural tastes and integrate that into the project. 

With every client she starts with a series of interviews to get a basic sense of their likes and dislikes in terms of style. It’s important to note that even if our clients are unsure of their tastes - which is very common - her clarifying process ensures that we get a firm sense of where the client's design desires lie. 

She then creates up to 5 options for clients to choose from, which is a great way to incorporate a custom approach while ensuring the client isn’t overwhelmed! 

The design consultation is an integral part of our process. It saves our clients money in the long run and provides valuable insight into their design tastes, which can only be helpful for future home projects!

Preparing For Installation

After the kitchen is gutted of appliances and old fixtures, we put the lower cabinet boxes in. These are templated, so it’s easy for us to install these within just a week. 

We install the rest of the cabinetry when everything else in the kitchen renovation is done. We’re very systematic in our approach, so once it’s our turn to install the ‘pretty’ parts of the project, such as handles, drawers, shelves, and doors - it doesn’t take long!  

It’s important to note that after the cabinetry is installed we insist on installing and levelling all of the appliances ourselves. We do this to ensure there’s no damage to the cabinets!

Project Timeline

Between installing the template boxes, building the rest of the cabinets, and installing them - the entire process takes about 4 weeks. 

At one point, we had a bit of a unique challenge in that we had to get pretty creative with one corner. The clients had a plumbing stack that we had to build a cabinet around to ensure there was no interference - but this is the benefit of specialising in custom kitchen cabinetry! 

We build the pieces to our client’s specifications, rather than the client being stifled by whatever is available off the rack. 

Once the custom cabinetry is installed and appliances put back and levelled, the final touch is paint touch-ups, and then our clients can enjoy their gorgeous new kitchen!
