KITCHEN PROJECT

Kitchen Renovation with Custom Island

PROJECT PROFILE

We discuss a 2019 kitchen solutions project for a discerning client that we’ve since built a wonderful relationship with!

Another beautiful summer day, another Project Profile installment! In today’s piece, we’re going to cover a project that we did in 2019 - one of the first projects that I, Daniela, was a part of!

Reliving this project was a ton of fun, and really highlighted just how custom our approach is, from the way we cultivate our client relationships to how we build!

As well, this project served as a perfect springboard to how we approach unique, custom cabinet solutions, kitchen trash solutions, and how best to maximize space!

Getting Started:

Our client reached out to us after finding us through RenovationFind, a site that compiles contractors in different local areas and helps connect clients with their ideal contractor for the project they have in mind.

This client was in the process of interviewing three different contractors. They took this meticulous approach due to a less-than-exemplary experience they had with a contractor they worked with some years prior, who ended up charging them differently than what was originally quoted.

They ended up choosing us in part because of our approach to that very aspect. Budgeting is a delicate balance, you really have to have a granular approach to how much time certain tasks take, the cost of materials, and subcontractor rates.

We provide a budgetary estimate after the design portion is complete, so we know exactly what we need to order and for how much. This penny-specific approach reduces unpleasant surprises and helps foster a great, trusting relationship with the client.

We further reinforce customer involvement and relationship-building by providing access to our project management software, Co-Construct. Not only is this tool incredibly useful for our trusted subcontractors, but it also gives the customer access to the project timeline as a whole and access to what portion of the project we’ll be working on during any given day.

If there are any changes in the budget, it’s usually due to one of two things:

  • The scope of work changes at the client’s request.
  • We find something unexpected that puts a hold on the project. When that happens, we stop work right away, inform the client, provide a solution, and they can decide how best to proceed.

The Building and Design Process

The client wanted a full kitchen solution renovation, complete with a kitchen island that could not only easily move, but that had storage for both wine bottles and their bar stools. They have a beautiful wine collection, so we needed to incorporate small spaces throughout the kitchen for displaying the bottles.

The kitchen island top is a gorgeous, food-grade butcher’s block for food prep, and we incorporated a little coffee bar, which, at the time, was a newer sort of design for us!

Kitchen Cabinet Solutions With Addison Grace Design

Of course, as always, we partnered with our amazing design team, Addison Grace Design. Addison really places a lot of value in sussing out our clients’ tastes and always asks thoughtful questions to get to a clear picture.

Through interviews and visual aids like site visits and photos, Addison and her team come up with 3 to 5 design mock-ups to choose from - perfect for avoiding choice paralysis! If the client doesn’t absolutely love her choices - we try a few more concepts until we get it right!

The sky’s the limit for us, which is why when Addison meets with the customers. She wants to figure out exactly how you use your kitchen, such as where you spend the most time preparing food and what areas you want to designate for appliances, coffee bars, wine display, and so on. Ultimately, how you use your kitchen is going to dictate what you need for cabinetry and general layout.

Remember, we’re totally and completely custom! We don’t have to go based on box store sizing, we work with the space you currently have so that it fits beautifully - and so there’s no wasted space.
